>A029 Broad Stair

Bespoke developer TGDH commissioned  the studio to devise and deliver a bespoke stair and gallery, anchoring the house.  In a way, it echoes the well-trodden traditions of a recognised architect being commissioned for a very specific room or object – within a larger whole.

The installation of a stair and gallery was seen as a way to explore a new relationship the studio and TGDH, and evolve collective production methods; calibrating at the thresholds between quality, intensity of detail, and speed of delivery.

The project sees the suppressing and expressing of the language of automation – when to embrace the signature of the automated drill bit, and when to conceal, or reduce distraction, when reading the whole piece.

The ongoing intention is to bring accuracy, low waste, and of course, a richness in presence and detail, to those typically not able to be exposed to a more attended-to architecture.
